Does eating Curry help reduce dementia risk?

You may have heard this story in the news and it is based on the fact that the percentage of people suffering with dementia in India is lower than in the UK. Scientists believe one reason could be that curries contain the spice turmeric (with active ingredient curcumin). Studies in mice showed the curcumin actually destroyed amyloid plaques in their brains! Amyloid plaques are related to the development of dementia especially Alzheimers dementia.

So what does this mean?

Well apart from eating more curries scientists are suggesting the development of a medication or supplement containing turmeric in higher doses which may help reduce the risk of dementia.
